Meet the Sheriff

Sheriff Hartley was sworn in as the Sheriff of Montrose County on March 16th, 2021. He began his law enforcement career in Hathian, Louisiana in October of 2000. He’s served with the Cedar Creek Police Department during its official transition into the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office and plays a vital role in our community. Sheriff Hartley prides himself on his agency and credits its success to those that make up the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office. He extends his open-door policy to the public and welcomes those with questions, comments, or concerns to speak with him directly.

Community Policing

The need to close the gap between the community and the Sheriffs that serve them has become increasingly important in recent years.  Typically, law-abiding citizens only get to know the Deputies in their community through the lens of public spectacles or coverage in the press.  The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office is committed to forming a more personal level of connectivity with our neighbors.  By making contact with more of the people in town, we will form a relationship based on trust and respect for one another.  This level of contact will make crime prevention and problem-solving easier. Working as a team, the Sheriffs and Citizens can make Cedar Creek a safer and more enjoyable place to live.

Career Information

The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office is seeking community-minded individuals with a strong sense of service.  Though not all jobs are sworn officer positions, all applicants must be of the highest moral character, pass a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.  Deputies must pass the academy course, and will be subject to ongoing training.  Officers must be 21 years or older to apply, have a current driver’s license, and a clean criminal record.  Previous experience is a plus but is not required.

Being a child in Cedar Creek does NOT excuse the consequences of your actions.  If caught, you can still be arrested and held in the MCSO jail.  You will have the same process as any other caught and accused criminal suspect.

Anyone under the age of 8 SHOULD be escorted by a guardian of sorts (even if NPCd).  If they are not, then Child Endangerment charges could be brought up against the guardians.
